Plus-minus thirty six hours after watching Life of Pi and I resumed reading the book. Yes, that's how good the story is that even if I already know how the plot's going to unfold, I still wouldn't pass the chance of having a wonderful read.
I've heard about the book, several months ago, and I already secured a copy of the eBook in our e-reader. But alas, I never found the time to read it. To be honest, the excitement of reading it and watching the movie all around me was infectious. So two days before we were scheduled to hit the cinemas, I started cram-reading. Nine percent into the story (Yes, Kindle does it like that. I wish I could see the page numbers instead.), I decided to stop my madness. Cram-reading is not good. Not at all. Very stressful! And what about my chores, my work, and my need to sleep, eh? Made me realize how much "free" time I actually had when I was still schooling. More than enough to finish a Potter book in less than 24 hours.
Back to Life of Pi... I cannot begin to describe how amazed I was with the film. And I wouldn't want to spoil the entire story for anyone. So let me just list down 10 Reasons Why Life of Pi Rocks:
I don't care how huge and dangerous they say it is. It's a kitty! And all throughout the movie, I could hardly contain my Ooohhhs, Ahhhs, and Awwwsss... But very softly of course, lest I offend the other watchers.
2.) And a whole gang of PETS AND ANIMAL FRIENDS too!
It was like watching Madagascar! I would have loved to be a zookeeper's kid too. Although I generally pity animals kept in cages.
3.) It will give you VISUAL ORGASM from start to finish.
The entire movie was a feast for the eyes, it would make you want to jump into the screen and join in!
4.) The movie came from a BOOK.
When a story is written with the intention of being a book and not simply as a movie script, that's truly something else.
5.) It makes you stop and think about how lucky you are that you have a FAMILY.
A bittersweet reminder for us to hug our families while we still can...
6.) KEEPING A DIARY will be given a whole new meaning.
Pi tried to document his days at sea in an improvised journal. Indeed, that's something that will help keep your sanity (And I know this first-hand).
7.) It provides a glimpse of another CULTURE.
To say that India is beautiful and extremely colorful is an understatement.
8.) You'll get a story that will make you LAUGH and CRY, become SCARED and BRAVE all for the price of one ticket (popcorn and drinks not included, of course).
I remembered how many times we rode a Superferry to and from Manila to Mindanao and how dangerous it could actually be at sea. Nevertheless, several lines and scenes in the movie actually made everyone in the audience giggle.
9.) It reminds you how BIG and at the same time MINISCULE you are in the grander scheme of things.
The immense vastness of the sea, of nature, and the world in general... It will remind you to pause and reflect on how you are living your own life.
10.) Life of Pi is one hell of a display of the triumph of the indomitable HUMAN SPIRIT.
One can have all the supplies and equipment in the world, but without an tough HEART and an enduring SPIRIT, he will never survive in the face of adversity. Start building yours today.
It's been a while since we last watched a movie in a "real" cinema but Life of Pi is one that surely gave us our money's worth. Perhaps even more. Go watch now, while I continue reading... Enjoy! :)

although it doesn't excite me as much as other films, I'm looking forward to seeing this film.
